OUR MISSION
To provide a loving and safe temporary home for dogs until a quality forever home is found.
To provide a no-kill alternative for dogs which will benefit the community, dog pounds and shelters from overcrowding.
To contribute to the end of unwanted pets and pet overpopulation through education and spaying and neutering before adoption.
WHO WE ARE
A Labor of Love is a non-profit no-kill dog rescue. We take in dogs from owners that are no longer able to keep their pet and adopt them into new loving homes. We do not charge a relinquishment fee but because we do assume high costs in caring for our dogs we would greatly appreciate any donation you can give.
WHAT MAKES OUR DOGS SO GREAT?
We do our very best to match our dogs to the family that is perfect for them! Our dogs are living in foster homes and are socialized with people and other dogs.
Before our dogs are adopted they will have had a physical exam and any health issues will be treated with all the information documented for the new owner. They will be spayed or neutered, have all necessary vaccinations including rabies, heartworm checked if age appropriate, wormed, treated for fleas and will be on a monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. All our dogs go to Earth Angel's, a low cost spay/neuter clinic here in Defiance.
We also give special attention to the appearance and cleanliness of our dogs. Each dog is bathed and brushed as well as nails trimmed and ears cleaned. If a dog requires special grooming they go to Tender Touch Pet Salon in Sherwood where they are groomed and pampered by Lyn.
Some of our dogs are even trained on Hidden Pet Fence of Northwest Ohio. The dogs just love being able to run around, play and socialize with each other. Our fence was installed by Dwayne Clevinger and you can contact him for more information at 419-258-9339 or email at dwyanec@go.com . You can also go to www.petsafepro.com and check it out!
ADOPTION FEES
Our adoption fees reflect the high quality of care our dogs receive while in our rescue. The dollar amount spent on each dog varies and is sometimes significantly higher than the adoption fee. Besides the basic veterinary care our dogs receive they are also treated for things such as heartworm disease and broken bones to ear infections and dentals. We are highly committed to giving the best care for our dogs and in finding homes where they will continue to receive that same level of love and care forever!
HOW TO ADOPT FROM US
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs you will need to fill out an adoption application. Part of our application process involves a home visit. We do not ship our dogs and we do not adopt without a home visit. Our dogs count on us to find them the most loving and high quality homes that they deserve!
OUR GOALS
One of our biggest goals is to be 501 (c) (3) classified which we are in the process of attaining. This process can be quite lengthy and can take many months to be finalized. 501 (c) (3) organizations receive extra privileges under the law. This means that we would be able to receive contributions from individuals and organizations that are tax deductible for them.
We will also be fundraising for a new building! This is going to be very exciting for us, we already have the property and we will be needing many hard working volunteers to help build! Our building will have an office as well as a groom room and a vet room. We will have a large indoor play area for the dogs as well as a fenced in outdoor play area. The dogs will not be living here as they are very happy living in foster homes but they will visit the play areas each day to exercise and socialize. Potential adopters will also enjoy coming to visit and interact with the dog they are interested in.
